Parliamentary Candidate Steph Booth Speaks Of Pride In Incredible Edible Todmorden

Calder Valley’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, Steph Booth, has spoken of her pride in seeing Todmorden’s Incredible Edible scheme continue to gain plaudits after another Council is set to emulate it.

Following a recent announcement from Brighton Council that officials were planning to introduce a similar scheme, Steph said this was further evidence that Todmorden was being recognised all over the country for its pioneering work in food self-sufficiency.

“Incredible Edible has already been praised by Health Secretary Andy Burnham as a brilliant scheme and I’m delighted to see that other local authorities are hailing Todmorden as the place to go to if you want to learn about the benefits of food growing to help create more sustainable communities.”

Giving further details of their proposed ‘Harvest Brighton’ scheme Brighton Council’s website states:

“The move would emulate the Incredible Edible scheme pioneered by northern town such as Todmorden, There, food has been grown in the most unlikely places, including a recreation ground, a police station and in a rhubarb farm under a railway viaduct. Elsewhere crops have sprouted in a Lidl car park, quiet roadside verges, a canal wharf and a polytunnel at a school.”
