Todmorden. A Great Place To Visit
Calderdale Councillors have agreed to measures which should bring more tourists into Calderdale. And Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Cllr. Amanda Byrne, says it’s a fantastic opportunity to boost the local economy.
At a meeting last night, Cabinet agreed to fund the tourism action plan, as recommended by the Economic Task Force.
It will see partners from the public and private sectors working together to help improve the economic wellbeing of the area.
“We all know what a great place Calderdale is to enjoy the great outdoors. And we have some really wonderful attractions, including the Piece Hall, Shibden and towns enjoying their own unique character.
“But to attract tourists, we need to involve organisations and individuals from the public and private sectors in telling people just what we’ve got here.
Councillor Ian Cooper, Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities, said:
“This is an example of where we have been able to come together to develop a good idea and take it forward for the benefit of the local economy.
“There is a marvellous opportunity to develop tourism in Calderdale. Its unique position, close to the Leeds and Manchester conurbations, coupled with the magnificent Pennine countryside and splendid towns means that it should be a honeypot for tourists.
“That would bring about huge economic benefits for the area and could create thousands of jobs.”
