Tod Talks About Town Regeneration
Over 100 people turned up to see the latest Development Brief proposals for the regeneration of Todmorden Town Centre. The initial stage of consultation was held on 21st January with local stakeholders groups, as well as local residents who came along.
The event was very successful and enabled people to see the plans for the future of the town, and also how previous public consultations had helped shape the proposals.
Councillor Amanda Byrne, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Development, was extremely pleased with the turnout for the first event;
“This is such an exciting opportunity for the town. We need input from local people to ensure the correct scheme progresses – it’s their town and we want them to have their say on what the future holds for Todmorden.”
Councillor Ian Cooper, Portfolio Holder for Community Services;
“As Chair of the Todmorden Renaissance Board, and a Todmorden Councillor, this scheme is of great interest to me. These consultation events are key to getting it right – people who use the Town Centre understand it best and we want to listen to what they have to say before making any decisions.
“How we change the town centre now will determine how successful it will be for many years to come.”
Ideas within the brief of particular interest to attendees included the concept of a public square and enhanced riverside area.
Further public consultation events will be taking place in February, details of which are as follows;
- Thursday 12th February, Todmorden Outdoor market, 9am – 4pm
- Tuesday 17th February, Todmorden Town Hall, 6pm – 8pm
- Saturday 21st February, Central Methodist Church, 10.30am – 2.30pm
The consultations will be advertised in the local press and in posters around Todmorden in the run up to the events.
