Support Grows For Incredible Edible Todmorden
Calderdale Council will present the first Community Growing Licence to Incredible Edible Todmorden on Monday 13th July, as part of new plans to extend the scheme across Calderdale.
Incredible Edible Todmorden aims to increase the amount of local food grown and eaten in the town and surrounding area. Calderdale Council now wants to extend the scheme across the borough. The council recently agreed proposals which will allow community groups to use council-owned land for growing their own produce.
The Calderdale Incredible Edible group has drawn up Community Growing Guidance to help people apply for a licence to grow fruit and vegetables. A number of requests for use of council land have already been put forward from across the borough and are being followed up. Junior Wardens across Calderdale are also involved in growing food in schools and in People’s Park in Halifax.
Councillor Ian Cooper, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet member for community services, will hand over the first Calderdale Community Growing Licence to Nick Green of Incredible Edible Todmorden. Monday 13th July, 11am at Ferney Lee residential home, Todmorden. The scheme has helped create raised beds in the home’s garden and volunteers who work on the garden will also be present. Photographers and journalists are cordially invited to attend.
Councillor Ian Cooper, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said:-
“Incredible Edible Todmorden is a great example of how communities can really make a difference by working together, and planting small seeds that grow into big changes. It’s incredible how fruit and veg has been springing up all over the Calder Valley. We now want to build on this success to encourage even more people across Calderdale to start ‘growing their own’.”
