Redevelopment Plans for Bramsche Square
Todmorden Regeneration Board discussed the next stage in the Bramsche Square redevelopment when it met last week. The Chair of Todmorden Regeneration Board, Cllr Ian Cooper, said: “The current proposals will see a high quality temporary landscaping scheme replace the Health Centre in the interim period, to ensure the town centre is not blighted by a large empty building and instead is aesthetically appealing for residents and visitors alike.
“The wider regeneration scheme presents a great opportunity to increase footfall into the Town Centre, giving support to existing businesses and market tenants.
“Hopefully the inclusion of a café/restaurant will generate a lively night time economy, bringing life to the Town on an evening.”
Additionally, members of the Board unanimously approved a proposal that the 45 parking spaces attached to the Rose Street Health Centre will be designated as interim free public parking until the development commences.
Commenting on the decision, Cllr. Amanda Byrne, Cabinet Member Regeneration and Development, added: “As the car parking area is adjacent to a Pay and Display Car Park, we wanted to take action to address concerns that the 45 car parking spaces attached to the previous Health Centre would also become chargeable.
“However, the Board was unanimous in agreeing that it is important to take action to encourage shoppers into the Town and create an economic stimulus for retailers and market tenants.”
Cllr. Cooper said: “This decision is very timely as we will soon be approaching the Christmas shopping period, a critical trading time for many local businesses.”
