Markets In Calderdale Are The ‘Real Deal’
Calderdale is to be the first borough in West Yorkshire to become the ‘Real Deal’, a new national campaign to promote fake-free markets. The ‘Real Deal’ campaign will be launched at 10am on Friday 12th March at Halifax Borough Market.
Following a zero tolerance approach to counterfeit goods for the last 12 months, the decision has been made to join the national campaign to make Calderdale markets safe, fake-free environments to shop and trade in.
‘Real Deal’ is a campaign backed by national organisations, market operators and trading standards. For criminal groups, selling fake goods is a relatively risk-free way to make money but consumers are being ripped off.
Legitimate sellers also face unfair competition.
John Walker, Markets Manager, says:
“We want our customers to be able to shop in our markets with confidence. A lot of fraudulent activity happens in markets and often the products can be dangerous or poorly made, so we want to put a total stop to it”.
Calderdale Council have been working in conjunction with the police and trading standards for some time. They have worked together to stop the sale of fake and pirated goods and ban those involved from trading at the markets and car boot sales.
The message to Calderdale’s traders is that counterfeit trading will not be tolerated at any of the sites in the borough.
The ‘Real Deal’ is an official rubber stamp, providing an assurance to traders and shoppers that Calderdale is committed to tackling criminality and providing quality goods.
