Developing Tourism In Todmorden
Members of CMBC Regeneration and Development Scrutiny Panel will consider proposals for developing a future tourism strategy for Calderdale when they meet on Wednesday 22 July.
Councillor Barry Collins, Scrutiny Chair for Regeneration and Development said:
“Tourism provides Calderdale with the opportunity to bring growth to the area even in times of economic uncertainty.
It is estimated that the industry is worth £248 million a year to the local economy and we need to ensure we maximise its economic benefits.
As more and more people choose to holiday ‘at home’ Calderdale needs to be well placed to capitalise on its visitor attractions and natural assets and a new tourism strategy for Calderdale will go some way in achieving this.”
The report also outlines the achievements delivered so far as part of the Tourism Action Plan which include:
- Business support and engagement
- Promotions and marketing
- Product development and innovation
- Representation at a strategic level.
A joint tourism board has already been established at the council. The board will be responsible for developing a tourism strategy for the area which should be approved and in place by the end of the year.
