Brighouse And Sowerby Bridge Leisure Centres Get Green Light

The building of new state of the art swimming and fitness facilities for Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge became a reality last night (23rd June) when Calderdale Council’s Planning Committee gave the green light to both schemes.

The brand new centres will start to take shape when work starts in the next couple of months and the new facilities will be welcoming their first customers later next year.

Both sites will include a 25 metre main pool, learner pool, fitness studio and multi purpose room. The Brighouse complex will be built in Wellholme Park and the Sowerby Bridge facilities will be located on the former market site on Station Road.

Councillor Ian Cooper, Cabinet Member for Community Services said:

“We are delighted that both schemes were approved and can’t wait to see them take shape and being enjoyed by people of all ages when they open later next year.

The Council is committed to developing healthier communities and investing in Calderdale and will strive to deliver both projects on time and budget.

Local residents and the public will be kept up to date, involved and engaged with developments on both sites as they progress.”

The projects provide a fantastic opportunity for local companies to benefit and a ‘Meet the buyer’ event has already taken place with the contractor and local companies to ensure they can take full advantage of any opportunities.
