Todmorden Council Tax Rise Is Lowest Ever
Todmorden residents will be paying some of the lowest council tax increases in the region. At last night’s Budget Meeting, councillors voted to peg council tax rises to 1.78%. It means that, from April nearly half of all households in the borough will find themselves paying less than £15 a year extra for council services.

Calderdale MBC Fair And Equal Pay Decision Is Delayed
Moves to ensure Council staff are paid fairly for the work they do were delayed yesterday as Calderdale’s Full Council meeting, agreed to adjourn a decision on plans to re-grade hundreds of jobs. All Councils have to undertake a ‘job evaluation’ exercise as part of the National Terms and Conditions of Service for Local Authority staff. It is to ensure that people are paid fairly for the work they are doing regardless of gender, race or disability, and formed part of national pay negotiations in 2004.
Todmorden Farmer Fined For Disease Legislation Offences
A farmer from Todmorden appeared before Halifax Magistrates today and was fined £3,000 + costs for failure to comply with legislation introduced to stop the spread of animal diseases. Mr Andrew John Barker of Bacup Road, Todmorden pleaded guilty to 31 offences relating to breaches of legislation introduced to prevent the spread of Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) and Foot and Mouth Disease. Mr Baker also pleaded guilty to 2 offences relating to the failure to dispose of carcases of sheep on land near Todmorden.
Mary Clear Wins Calderdale Council’s Employee of the Year
The popular community development officer works in communities across Calderdale, but has drawn most attention for the work she does in Todmorden. Mary was presented with the award by the Mayor of Calderdale, Cllr. Conrad Winterburn in a ceremony today (Wednesday), as part of the Calderdale One Awards, which recognise the outstanding contributions of some of the Council’s most dedicated employees.
